In June 2021, the OEB initiated a consultation to renew its Innovation Sandbox.
 
The OEB Innovation Sandbox supported a number of innovative pilot projects in its first two years. However, the OEB recognizes that the Innovation Sandbox could be enhanced to better support innovation, and that adjustments made with the benefit of stakeholder input would allow the Innovation Sandbox to be more effective at responding to stakeholder needs and supporting innovation that delivers value to consumers.

On January 31, 2022, the OEB issued the Innovation Sandbox 2.0 Report to support the generation and adoption of new ideas and technologies within Ontario’s energy sector.
