Licensed energy retailers

Before you sign up for an energy contract, be sure you’re dealing with an energy retailer (also known as an electricity retailer or a natural gas marketer) that has a licence issued by the Ontario Energy Board.

Why?

Because licensing is one of the tools that we use to set rules for energy retailers that protect you from unfair business practices. If we find that a licensed energy retailer has broken the rules, we can require them to comply or impose penalties. We can also suspend or revoke their licence.
