The OEB engages regularly with consumers, industry, consumer advocacy groups and others in its decisions and consultation processes. This participation in our processes is welcomed and assists our Commissioners and staff in making sound decisions in the public interest. Anyone who wishes to actively participate in a proceeding can apply for intervenor status and may be eligible to have some of their costs covered.
We have established an initiative to review our intervenor processes and cost awards practices. This is part of our commitment to become a top quartile regulator.
We are moving forward by developing a Framework for the Review of Intervenor Processes and Cost Awards. This initiative was included in the OEB’s Chief Commissioner Plan. The 2020 survey of stakeholders in the sector identified an interest in reviewing the intervenor process. The work is consistent with direction received through the mandate letter sent to the OEB Chair by the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines in 2020 and supported by the mandate letter received from the Minister of Energy in 2021.
Through this initiative, we seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the process.
Note: As of September 22, 2022, materials related to the Framework for the Review of Intervenor Processes and Cost Awards are now located on the OEB's digital engagement platform, Engage with Us.
