Toronto –Today, the Ontario Energy Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Donald Dewees to the Market Surveillance Panel (MSP).
Mr. Dewees is appointed a member of the Market Surveillance Panel effective October 1, 2016. He is a Professor Emeritus of Economics and of Law at the University of Toronto and holds an engineering degree from Swarthmore College, an LLB from Harvard and PhD in Economics from Harvard. Mr. Dewees served as Vice Chair of the Ontario Market Design Committee, which advised the government on the introduction of competition into the electricity market. Mr. Dewees’s research is in the areas of environmental economics including law and economics, energy policy including the environmental effects of electricity generation, renewable power and consumer response to prices and incentives.
The MSP monitors the province’s wholesale electricity markets to identify inappropriate or irregular activities that can have a negative impact on market efficiency or effective competition. The MSP may also identify actual or potential flaws and inefficiencies in the market rules or the design of the markets.
The MSP reports on its activities and, where appropriate, investigates the conduct of market participants.
