This project consulted with stakeholders on the rate making issues that may be associated with certain distributor mergers, acquisitions, amalgamations and divestitures.
At the time of the consultation, there were 87 electricity distribution companies regulated in Ontario, some with multiple service territories and rates. This review focused on the regulatory treatment of the financial impacts of consolidation in electricity distribution rate-making. While the review discussed various potential costs and benefits that may be associated with consolidation for illustrative purposes, it did not discuss the economics of consolidation.
